It depends on the plant and your conditions in your house. Some tropical and semitropical plants like a lot of humidity. If the humidity is high enough naturally they adding water with a mist is not necessary. However, in many homes with gas heat, for example, the humidity is very low–sometimes less than 20%. It can get dryer than a desert. In this case it is a good idea to mist to keep the leaves from dehydrating.
