While you may like to blame the democratic congress for the off shore drilling ban, perhaps you should remember that George Bush Sr placed that ban in effect.

That is an excellent point. It seems its more about deliberately keeping oil prices high so they can use it for a political issue than any concern about the environment.
Bush was involved in ONE State Ban, which he’s changed his mind on since oil went so high. But the democrats are in favor of banning Florida off Shore still even though the governor wants to lift the ban, and Anwar and many all areas.

The oil companies have a pretty good idea that there is oil there or else they would not have opted to take out leases on those lands.

MAN, are you people ignorant. There is NO shortage. When was the last time you went to a pump and they said they were out. NEVER. This is all a political ploy. This administrations last BIGGEST lie before it leaves. We don’t need to drill. We need to put a cap on economic rape.
You should also know that Bush has bankrupted every company he has had. And now you are letting him pay back his debts.

Many republicans have campaigned over the last 15 years for drilling for oil in alaska and other places as a way of decreasing our dependence on foreign cartels who set oil prices in a way that would cause huge anti-trust suits in america. The very liberal agenda in this country has continued to do everything in its power to block that for the purpose of saving eco-systems that it feels would be destroyed. Of course now they are complaining about gas prices but who can keep track of what they are complaining about today…

To try and booster Obama’s program of not drilling off-shore or even a single new Nuclear plant! He doesn’t even mind the high gas prices..just they went too high too fast!

If we allow drilling today, it will take seven years before the oil starts flowing. When oil starts flowing at that time, the cost increase for increased demand may outstripe the price increase from greater supply.
It is not the same environment. Drilling in West Texas is not in the same environment as off the coast of Florida. After drilling has already started in the West Texas, the environment is already affected.
The governor may want it. But locals may have a different reaction.

the oil companies already have leases for land that they know have oil in them, but aren’t drilling on the right now.
it doesn’t make since to give them new land if they aren’t using what they have now.
if we go by their track record there is a big chance they will just set on the new land they are doing with the land they already have.
